In Praise of Handmade and Homemade

We don’t sell home-sewn garments on this site, but if you are lucky enough to be able to sew or to have someone sew for you, count your blessings!

You can have your clothes customized to fit better.  You can personalize your clothes to express your personality and individuality.  You can have that garment you’ve been imagining, but have not seen for sale!

If you make it yourself, the time and effort spent constructing a garment will open your eyes to the unfairness of sweatshop practices.  It will make you realize what goes into a well-made item and why it should cost more than something available at the cheaper chain stores.  It might even motivate you to take better care of your clothes.

If someone you love makes you something, recognize that they spent hours and hours working on something that they hoped would please you.  It doesn’t matter if you like it or not; it doesn’t matter if it cost much to make.  The point is that someone loves you so much that they put in extra effort and thought for you, much more effort than just grabbing an item off a shelf or a gift card from a rack.  That’s love and you should appreciate it.
